Historical Information

Officially hoisted 12 March 1968. The red stripe represents the struggle for freedom and independence, the blue stripe stands for the colour of the Indian Ocean. The yellow stripe symbolizes the new light of independence, and the green stripe represents agriculture and symbolizes the colour of lush, green Mauritius throughout the year.
