Historical Information

Adopted 22 July 1947. The central figure is the chakra (wheel) from the capital of the ancient Asokan column at Sarnath. To a Buddhist the wheel represents the inevitability of existence:Dharma Chakra (Wheel of Law). the saffron (orange) symbolizes courage and sacrifice, while the white stands for peace and truth, and the green faith and chivalry.
