Historical Information
Adopted 28 October 1928. The flag, adopted as the national flag and war ensign of China, was retained by the nationalist forces, which were defeated by the communists and in 1949 found refuge on the island of Taiwan. The 12 rays of the white sun represent the 12 two-hour periods of the day, and together they symbolize the spirit of unceasing progress. the colours stand for the three principles of the people - democracy (blue), the people's livelihood (white) and nationalism (red). the colours also have a dual meaning: blue stands for equality and justice, the white for fraternity and frankness, and the red for liberty and sacrifice.
