Historical Information

Adopted 8 September 1948. The star symbolizes the revolutionary traditions established by president Kim II Sung. The red represents revolutionary patriotism and the fighting spirit, and the white stands for the Korean nation and its culture. The blue stripes symbolize 'the aspiration of the Korean people to unite with the revolutionary people of the whole world and fight for the victory of the idea of independence, friendship and peace'.
