Historical Information

Adopted 18 November 1977. The stars originally represented the five districts of the country, but in 1982 when the country was divided into seven provinces, it was decided that the stars would instead symbolize the five main groups of islands. The yellow stands for the sun, the blue for water (the sea, rivers and the rain) and the green for land, its trees and food crops.
